While we’re sure NASA is bristling at the idea of people getting the science wrong, it still makes for a fun party trick. (By the way, this video is from 2012 because this myth has been around that long, if not longer.) Which means, if you can get the bristles positioned like a tripod, your broom will stand upright any day of the year. The center of gravity is low on a broom, and rests directly over the bristles. Instead, it has everything to do with balance. It also has nothing to do with the vernal equinox (another day of the year when this “magic” supposedly happens). It has nothing to do with the earth’s gravitational pull on a certain day. Many people have cited Nasa as the inspiration to do this, and/or. We had to go test it… /DNtkOlLRGdīut the truth is, you can make a broom stand upright today… and tomorrow and the day after… and the day after that. The broomchallenge has people all over the world photographing and filming their brooms standing upright without any support. But as with many things on the internet, people ran with it. We couldn’t find anything from NASA to support the tweet. Okay so NASA said today was the only day a broom can stand up on its own because of the gravitational pull…I didn’t believe it at first but OMG! □□□□□ /M0HCeemyGt Besides NASA debunking the claim, several publications have also identified this assertion as a hoax that has been in existence for long. Even the wore out shop broom stands by it self.Ī viral tweet suggests that NASA said Monday was the only day the “standing broom” trick would work, because of the earth’s gravitational pull.We did it at my salon Hairapy with all our “tiny brooms” (tint brushes) too!.My broom is STILL standing in the kitchen 8 hours later. I went to the bar and freaked everyone out by standing up the broom there, then found out that it worked for our broom at home too.Jeri Davis aka "Gramma" in Painesville, Ohio.NASA said it could be done so we tried it! Low an behold it CAN be done □.This is an angled broom that was in the middle f the floor for 5 mins before we put it away.□ got my broom to stand this morning!!!.Broom standing in Mandurah Western Australia. Was sceptical at first, but had to find out.Spoof or not, it was fun flying out of bed to try this! This broom is stuck up and doesn't want to sweep.come to find I was wrong □ you can make your broom stand anytime ! I thought it was a one time magical thing with the earths gravitational pull.Last night before going to work I did the broom challenge left it standing in the kitchen woke up my husband to tell him good bye he walked into the kitchen and said O sh** I think we have a ghost sweeping our in our kitchen. They will stand any day of the year lol not just for yesterday’s “myth” This was taken this morning at around 8:20am.I didn’t believe it until my fiancé did it.It was hilarious though it can be done anytime any day □.I even stuck out my right hand and commanded ‘UP!’, guess I won’t be playing quidditch today either. If it was, the pens on my desk would be floating in the air. Of course!Īs would be the case in the special alignment of the planets, while there is a small shift when the moon is right overhead, it’s not enough to disrupt Earth’s gravitational pull. Then it has to be the moon’s gravitational pull. While things may float around in New Orleans, or in The Haunted Mansion at Walt Disney World, I did not have random objects weighing less than a broom floating around my house. Wouldn’t that be wicked?! A shift in the Earth’s gravitational pull would cause things not only to stand, but float and the effects would be obvious. If this were the case, objects weighing less than brooms would stand alone. Planetary alignments can not cause a considerable amount of gravitational change to make brooms stand alone. If it’s not spring equinox then it has to be the planets, right?Īccording to the theories of science, nope.
